Spencer is a Level 1 Human Biomechanics Specialist through Functional Patterns.

Additionally, he is licensed to train people using the FP methodology which is unique because it places an emphasis on training the connective tissue in addition to the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.  This very different approach to movement and exercise can be used to train a wide spectrum of people from elite athletes to the elderly.

The Power of Posture

All of the training is based around the big four: standing, walking, running, and throwing.

As the only vertebrate on Earth that moves upright on two points, the standing position is the starting point for the training. Therefore, the founder of Functional Patterns has written a book on how to stand titled The Power of Posture. This is a great place to start if you’re interested in learning more about this type of training.

Walk, Run, & Throw

Beyond the standing position, training is built around our gait cycle which allows us the ability to walk, run, and throw.

Additionally, these are the actions that our species evolved the ability to do over hundreds of thousands of years (or more), training our bodies through these actions is respecting one’s evolutionary biology.

Not only is lifting weights detrimental to our joints (most importantly in the spine) but it’s also not an effective way to build functional strength (the ability to move well on a three-dimensional plane). Functional Patterns

Functional Patterns is a training methodology that was founded in 2006 by CEO Naudi Aguilar. Naudi has conducted seminars globally certifying practitioners like us.
